Sweatshops are a social justice issue which impacts many citizens in individual countries such as China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and more. There is no single definition of what a sweatshop is. The US Department of Labor defines a sweatshop as a factory that violates two or more labor laws, such as those pertaining to wages and benefits, child labor or working hours. (Wanda Embar, 2015)
International groups are endorsing boycotting brands such as Nike, Walmart, Victoria’s Secret, Disney and more, as they use sweatshop labor to produce their products.
The United Nations have taken action against eliminating sweatshops, particularly in the Sports Footwear Industry.
